-1 101 1 Z The burial of a chieftain, dating from the late 6th century BC, was discovered in a wooden chamber beneath a large barrow at Hochdorf in Germany. The man, probably a Celtic prince, had been laid on a beautiful bronze couch. The body had been carried to the grave in a funerary vehicle built of wood with metal coverings. High-status graves are distinguished by the quality and quantity of gold objects, buried with other aristocratic accessories connected with hunting and feasting.
